Virgo: Beauty in Simple Things
Virgo is a Mason jar of green juice spiked with a big dose of ginger and lime because the vitamin C in the lime helps your body digest the iron in the spinach and you can only go on so long eating things that are healthy but not delicious.
Virgo is replacing the battery in the smoke detector and then setting up a temporary charging station at your desk and pausing occasionally while you work to charge your headphones and the electric lighter and the e-reader and the rechargeable batteries in the remote because it’s important to keep an eye on all of the electronic devices that almost never need to be charged but make you really sad when they’re dead.
Virgo is putting a fireproof plate under that candle that’s just a little too enthusiastic just to be safe.
Virgo is stopping to have a strategy session and writing, “What kind of work do I want to be doing?” in your notebook and then crossing it out and writing, “What do I want people to pay me for?” because you’re never going to get anywhere until you’re clear about why you’re doing this.
Virgo is ripping your strategy to pieces and then patting yourself on the back with a genuine, “Good job. I’m proud of you.”
Virgo is buying a drying rack that hangs up in the closet because taking care of your clothes is important to you and “I don’t have room on the floor to lay it flat to dry” isn’t a good enough reason not to buy the soft sweater made of durable, natural fiber.
Virgo is taking care of yourself even when it means telling hard truths. Virgo is saying, “No.” Virgo is reading the manual and putting the furniture together yourself.
Virgo is learning a craft, honing it your whole life, and hoping that you have what it takes to make something really special when you’re 80.
Virgo is a clean, well-lighted place because sometimes that is all that is needed, and sometimes there are beautiful things that would exist… if only someone would give them space.
