Aquarius Inside: Anything but Cold

Earlier today my Patreon patrons and I were talking on our Discord server about Aquarius. Saturn went into Aquarius today, and Jupiter isn’t far behind, so understanding the new world order (so to speak) was on everyone’s minds.

The Myth of Transparency: Things Are Not as They Appear

One of the most common mistakes astrologers make is assuming that people are transparent, that the way things appear on the outside is the same as what’s happening on the inside.

Malcom Gladwell talks about the myth of transparency in his book Talking to Strangers: What We Should Know About the People We Don’t Know. He makes a compelling case that believing it’s possible to figure out what is going on someone’s mind from the way they behave is dangerous.

Con men are masters of behaving in ways that hide their true intentions, and people who behave in ways we don’t expect are falsely accused of crimes, simply for being different.

Aquarian Coldness is Self-Control

For Aquarius, the myth of transparency is disastrous. It creates the stereotype that Aquarius is “cold” and “unfeeling” with a mind made of gears because Aquarius fails to respond to emotional situations with the kind of effusiveness most people expect.

The truth is that the "coldness" of Aquarius isn’t a lack of feeling. It’s self-control.

Aquarius is the water bearer. Aquarius creates containers for other people's feelings. Aquarius intuitively understands that getting worked up by the emotions of the person they're trying to help is as useful as a bucket melting to get closer to the water it’s holding. Aquarius is a natural at holding space.

Aquarius’s calm is the calm of a lifeguard who knows that if they enter into a swimmer’s panic, they will both drown. Aquarius is the person who responds to the death of their sister by making sure their sister’s children will continue to have health insurance. Aquarius calmly does what needs to be done, so everyone else can fall to pieces.

On the outside, Aquarius is rational, pragmatic, and unflappable.

On the inside, Aquarius is anything but cold.
